Simplify for the New Year: Closet #2 and a GIVEAWAY!!

My youngest daughter’s closet is actually the first space that I chose to organize when I started this project, but I just posted a couple of the other spaces first. When I converted her crib to a toddler bed, I knew that there were things in her room that would now need to be put into the closet…diaper rash cream, Vick’s baby rub, lotions, etc… At that point, I just randomly put it all into her closet without taking the time to clean out her closet and put everything in its place! Big mistake!!

See what I mean?? It’s a nightmare in there!! In my defense, I am not a fan of the closet system that is in her closet (or any of the closets in our house for that matter). A few years back, I tried to rearrange it, but I just couldn’t get it to work without buying some extra pieces of the closet system. Someday I will install a useful closet system!
She also just went through a growth spurt and I hadn’t made the time to go through and pack up the clothes that didn’t fit her anymore. There is a plastic bag in there on top of the diaper box that has some outgrown clothes that I have been putting in there…at least that was a start!
So…I started by pulling out all of the clothes that didn’t fit her…

These clothes will head into the attic. My girls are now close enough in size that I just keep the next size of clothes (passed down from my oldest daughter) in an underbed box. I just pulled the clothes out of that box and put them in her closet and dresser. When I cleaned out my oldest daughters closet, her outgrown clothes went into the underbed box in my youngest daughter’s room. Simple process!
I have been using the top shelf of her closet to store seasonal items….Easter baskets, way too many Easter eggs, Christmas candles, old Halloween costumes, etc… I put all of the spring items in a box to go in the attic and the Halloween costumes ended up in either the donation box or the garage sale box…shelf cleared and problem solved! There were also a couple of boxes in the bottom of her closet that contained items that at one point I thought I needed to hold on to. Half of the items ended up in the trash and the others were split between my donation box and my garage sale box. I could already feel the “weight of clutter” being lifted off of my shoulders just by getting those boxes “out of my house.”

Much better! I just need to buy one of those double hang closet rods to feel like I am fully taking advantage of this space.
What you can’t see in this picture is that there is almost an entire shelf up on top that is empty. I watch an infant during the week so I still need to have some items accessible…pack n play, boppy pillow, etc. I am not able to store this inside her closet. Before I cleaned out her closet, those things didn’t really have a place. It feels so much better to have a place to keep them when they aren’t being used
All of the “health” products and lotion products are kept in the basket on the shelf along with her diapers. Hopefully the diapers won’t be there much longer since I am in the process of potty training her. Every time that I buy a package of diapers, I hope that it is the last one that I am going to have to buy for her.

It sure looks nice! It seems from time to time I have to reorganize my son's closet too. I use it for toy storage as well, and that is sure a struggle!

Oh I remember those days of little baby clothes, diapers up the wazoo, baby toys... Granted my son is only 3 but when he was little/little it was hard trying to keep his closet organized, especially since he was out growing everything left and right!

You did a great job and the closet looks more 'calm' now [if that makes sense].

Thanks for stopping by my Blog and I am also your newest follower as well :)
